TOP FIVE BOATING ESSENTIALS!

The Key West Bight Marina notoriously strives to provide visitors and locals with the perfect island escape while immersing themselves in the most inviting of atmospheres. It comes as no surprise that thousands of visitors frequent the Bight Marina on a consistent basis every single year. With the Marina being one of the most sought-after places in Key West and considering Florida practically has one consistent climate all year round, every day is paradise on the open waters surrounding the Key West Bight Marina.

With that being said, we have compiled a list of the top 5 Boating Essentials any avid boater needs to ensure a fun and safe time out on the water.

  • Waterproof Camera

Capturing memories is an absolute must and what better way to show off your day on the water by bringing along a waterproof camera? Whether you are using a waterproof phone case, a disposable waterproof camera or even a GoPro, you don’t want to forget to pack this very important go-to essential. We recommend stopping by either Captain Quick Dry or Hammerhead Surf Shop as they are fully stocked in all your waterproof essentials.

  • Water Toys

Inflatable paddleboards, waterskis, kneeboards, wakeboards, raft floats — OH MY! Don’t get us wrong, lounging around the sand bar with a drink in hand on an inflatable raft is fun but we also highly recommend also packing all things that a meant to go fast. The open waters surrounding the Key West Bight Marina make for the perfect aquatic playground with plenty of room to do whatever you want when it comes to entertaining on the water. Whether you feel like relaxing on an inflatable raft, throwing around a frisbee or kneeboarding, make sure to do your research to ensure you pack the perfect water toy for you and the crew.

  • Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and More Sunscreen

Staying protected from the sun while on the water is an absolute must! There is nothing worse than waking up the next day with a painful sunburn. Stocking up on plenty of sunscreens and re-applying that sunscreen multiples times throughout the day is a great way to ensure you don’t wake up in pain the next day. Considering Key West is surrounded by America’s only living coral reef, we also encourage you to use Oxybenzone and Octinoxate free sunscreens. Reef Relief’s Environmental Center carries a wide variety of reef relief friendly sunscreen that will also keep you safe from all the harmful UVA Rays.

  • Beverages, Food, and a Fully Stocked Cooler

There is nothing worse than being miles away from land with nothing to eat or drink. Having a fully stocked cooler on board is not only essential but with the Florida heat, it is crucial. Fully stocking your cooler not only prepares for a full day of boating but also ensures you will stay hydrated and alert for a fun day on the water. Stocking up on sandwiches, water, plenty of snacks and, of course, a few adult beverages are some go-to items any boater should bring onboard with them. Oh, and don’t forget to bring along a bottle opener!

  • Extra Towels and Dry Clothing

With you and your crew splashing in and out of the water, nothing is worse than not having a towel to dry off with. Just like socks in the dryer, towels have a tendency to go missing very fast when you are out on the water all day. To save yourself from any headaches, we highly recommend packing a few extra towels and an extra pair of clothing just to be on the safe side. There is nothing worse than being cold and wet while your boat heads back into the Key West Bight Marina.
