Can you believe it’s already May? With summer just around the corner, so is your chance for some boating fun under the sun and much more at the Key West Historic Seaport and Key West Bight Marina. But for us “newbie” passengers, what should we pack? Take a look at this list of items to bring along for a perfect boat day.
Fun and Games
After some sunbathing, swimming, or fishing, have a little fun with some games you can bring in your boat bag. Card games are great, especially if they’re waterproof!
Snacks and LOTS of Water
This almost goes without saying, but make sure to pack lots of snacks and water! Ideally, the boat you’re on will have plenty, but you can never be too careful when it comes to eating and staying hydrated.
Chargers for Your Phone and Other Electronics
Don’t leave this one to chance! Even if you don’t end up needing it, having a portable charger will give you peace of mind (and maybe it can help others who forgot theirs). Just be careful not to get your phone too wet or let it fall in the water!
And speaking of electronics…don’t forget to bring a dry bag.
Use a small dry bag for your smartphones and electronics to keep your gear dry while you’re out on the water. It’s also good to have a few extra water-resistant bags for wet swimsuits and towels.
Sunscreen and Sun Protection
Regardless of whether or not you sunburn easily, sunscreen is a must with an SPF 30 or higher. Specifically, bring a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. And who said protecting yourself from the sun had to be boring? There are tons of nice cover-ups, hats, and sunglasses for the whole family. Not only do these items protect you from the sun, but they keep you nice and comfortable and look pretty great, if I may say so myself!
Music has the ability to take any situation and make it even more fun and meaningful. With that said, bring along your favorite songs to pump up the day for you and those with you on the boat. Ideally, you’ll want to bring Bluetooth speakers or other portable options that are waterproof and not too sensitive to the elements.
To conclude, this list is just a starting point, and be sure to do your research on the specific area in which you’ll be boating so that you’ll have everything you need for a boat day that’s nothing less than fabulous. We’ll see you there!
